Don’t give up on your resolution
It’s well known that the most popular New Year’s resolution by North Americans is to lose weight. However, less than 5% of people successfully achieve their goal. The process of losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight is dependent on many factors all working together to create the ideal conditions for success. If any part of the process is not optimal, it can hamper results, causing discouragement, potential health problems, and leading to abandonment of the weight loss effort.
At the Bernstein Diet & Health Clinics, our team of specially-trained nurses and doctors will help you to see results right away, keeping you motivated toward your goal. We work with you to help create the ideal conditions for your success, including:
- providing a balanced, nutritious diet that is easy to follow.
- Frequent 1-on-1 visits with the nurses and doctors provide ongoing personal support to keep you accountable and on track for success.
- We help you break out of old bad habits faster, while establishing and reinforcing your new healthy eating habits and behaviours to develop long-term sustainable lifestyle change.
- We ensure you are losing weight properly and quickly, and that all body functions are working normally or are improving.
Resolve to make this the last time you resolve to lose weight. Give us a call. We’ll help you get there.

Back to topTips for Weight Loss Success
To lose weight successfully, we need to change our eating habits and how we think about food. But it’s so often easier said than done. Even when we are trying to be conscious about eating better, sometimes the very sight of it can trigger temptation.
Think about how often you eat food that you don’t even want: the free chips that came with your sandwich; the second helping of dinner just to be polite; the unsatisfying fat-free ice cream that you just didn’t want to waste. The trouble with such rationalizations is that they add up to extra calories and pounds. Here are some tips to fight dangerous food logic:
It’s Free!: We run into free samples in the grocery store, or the treat that someone left in the lunch room at work. In our minds, free food may be regarded as a bonus that doesn’t need to be accounted for. Combat this logic by asking yourself: if it wasn’t free, would I go out and buy it?
It’s a Bargain: Sure, the large size is only 50 cents more, but it will cost you a lot more soon enough. Consider that less is actually more. Though it’s appealing to upsize for a deal, by choosing the smaller size you still spend less and save the extra calories. It’s a win-win that you can feel good about.
I Deserve It: Food is often a basic and easy reward to celebrate a success, or for enduring a rough day. Combat this negative logic by rewarding all of your needs, not just those of instant gratification. You may well deserve a reward, but is it a reward if it leads to guilt, negative emotions and possible health problems? Instead, treat yourself to a healthy meal out and skip the cooking and dishes, and then take refreshing walk with your family or a friend. Or reward yourself with a trip to the mall and a new purchase of something that looks great on you – and inspires you to keep looking and feeling your best.
